Thank you Judith for the reminder that it really is not about whether or not we liked the movie but how it points out that we need to resolve issues early and not let them haunt us for life.

I have seen this so many times..children at younger age needs help, then teens want to be their own, then adults who are adults and take on lots of responsibilites, then the elderly, who are like children again.. it's like a cycle.

Thanks to all of you who have responded.
And congratulations to you, Julia, for starting therapy.
May it be a rich, adventurous journey for you.

For everyone . . .
Whether you liked the movie or not, whether or not you have had experiences of loved ones or people you know who became dependent in their old age, it is important to be aware that whatever issues we didn’t resolve in our childhood related to dependency will surface, or resurface, in our old age.

With that awareness, we can be more aware and compassionate with
others who are aging and experiencing their dependency issues.
With that awareness, we ourselves can move through our old age more consciously and purposefully. With that awareness, we can choose to do the inner work of psyche and soul now, not wait till our old age, and thereby affect what our experience will be as we age.

Many blessings,
Judith Barr

When my grandma got older it was like she was going back in time and becoming a child all over again. That was so sad for me and my mom because who ever wants to see the people that you love and care for so much turn into something that you never thought before was possible? Aging can be a wonderful time for many but there are others who do not get to enjoy those golden years, and the same is true for their family members who care for them on a daily basis.

Maybe I was one of the few who did not like this story but I did not. I found nothing about it uplifting.

I think aging backwards is very apt. I think when we are growing up we dont want the girls in the mall to know we are not from college but from high school. At 40, we would like nothing better than a game with the boys or getting wet in the rain.

The premise of Benjamin Button and aging backwards is so accurate because I know that it seems that many times when people get old they are almost like children again in that they have to be taken care of and watched so closely. It is not so far off track.

I actually went to my very first therapy session ever yesterday and what an eye opener I know this is going to prove to be. I had no idea how being raised by your parents really can affect you so much later in life. I find myself withholding love and affection from others because that is what I learned from them growing up. I have not seen the Benjamin Button movie yet but hope to when it comes out on DVD and hopefully this can help me even more.

I think my earliest memory of power was the ability of my mum to cut me out of dessert time if I misbehaved. I think that should date back to the time I was two and a half or a little more. We are who we are based on our parents. I think the constructive use and destructive use of everything stems from our interraction mainly at home. I remember the first swear words I learned was when I heard my dad arguing across the fence with our neighbour.
