There are multiple costs associated with poor mental health at work; companies must grapple with the ramifications of sick leave, decreases in the quality of performance, and even spread of aggression and rudeness among overly stressed employees. Recently, an Australian mental health researcher addressed a major local business conference with the idea that spending money on promoting good mental health in the workplace can go a long way towards making company atmospheres more pleasant and reducing costs associated with feeling and performing at a low level. The idea is sure to meet with greater enthusiasm as the need for effective loss control becomes more intense around the world.

When bosses behave in a more compassionate manner towards mental health problems they are almost guaranteed a more productive workforce. Stress and the pressure of overwork should be addressed at the very minimum and support offered.
I think that’s a good investment. Mental wellness is on the decline with varied stress factors these days. A friend of mine attempted suicide after her spouse lost his job and the kids contracted swine flu. It can be very stressful these days with so much on everyone’s mind.
haha we can’t even get a decent basic healthcare plan passed. Do you think that mental health investments are going to get funded even though you and I both know that this could greatly increase productivity in many workplaces, as well as improve the lives of so many people across the country? Don’t hold your breath.
