America Diagnosed with PTSD As a Nation

Recent revelations about the growing frequency of diagnoses of PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, among veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have helped to make the country more aware of the issue, yet some remain concerned that PTSD is still largely unchecked as a growing health concern. An editorial in the publication Truthout has recently suggested that the country as a unit is affected by PTSD, exhibiting the full spectrum of symptoms that one would expect from a client presenting the concern. Whether clinicians will agree with the writer’s diagnosis remains to be established.

as the number of people suffering from a problem increases,so does the process of fixing the issue.to have a lot of people affected by PSTD to such an extent that the whole nation is being said to have PSTD is disastrous indeed and just shows how lax the government has been in tackling the issue before it spawned into a monster as big as it is now… better late than never, they should take measures to effectively control it atleast now.

It is sad to know that so many people experience this in a country that is described as the most prosperous in the entire world. Maybe this has to do with the recent recession? yes,the army veterans thing is understood but to have so many people experiencing this has to be attributed to a much broader reason…which I think is the recession.

^^Trauma is often a family thing rather than an individual thing…when there is something in a family that has a traumatic effect,it affects the entire family, thereby increasing the numbers!

It is an editorial! He made references to both PTSD and the first 2 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. He may have taken diagnostic criteria our of context however My perception of the article is more about stop reenacting and stop going over and over healthcare, the presidency what everyone hears every minute of everyday on news radio and other forms of news media. News media can traumitize people. Especially in Hurricane season. Look how panic stricken everyone was not only in Hawaii but all over the world with the recent Earthquake in Chilli…I thought Hawaii was going to get a super tsunami and be wipped off of the map!

I think he is asking people to see and identify the problem and to take action.
Or, as the author of the editorial talked about admitting powerlessness and taking action…I’m adding the 12 step programs first tradition applying it to the nation with PTSD Our Common Welfare Should Come First, Personal Recovery Depends Upon this nations Unity!
