My Approach to Helping

I advocate a very practical approach to psychotherapy comprised of three steps: identity, confront, and solve. Problem solving is really not a complex mystery --- to put it simply, you cannot change what you don't understand or you won't acknowledge. The more you know about your real self, the more you can initiate change, reach your goals, and attain that ideal self. Isn't that what we all want after all? I truly believe that it's imperative to have a warm relationship with your clients. You can have "all the right answers", but if your clients do not like or trust you, they will not be open to change. My office reflects my personal philosophy. I have comfortable recliners, a waterfall, warm colors, and a panoramic view of water, hills, and pine trees. It is in a convenient location, but my clients tell me that they feel that they are removed from the world. This immediately promotes relaxation. I do not belive that therapy should be a life-long process. I like to set goals so that clients can reclaim their life and develop coping skills to deal with daily issues. on their own. They are always welcome to return for tune-ups. we all need that from time to time. My clients know that I am always available by phone and I don't adhere to a 55 minute session. If they need more time, I am here for them. I like to feel that I am both a friend and a trained professional who really cares about their well-being. Confidentiality is a given and they are aware of this before we begin. I will adjust my fee if necessary. Clients know that I address their issues with warmth and concern and that I really care about them as individuals.
