My Approach to Helping
In psychotherapy, life's stressors lose power. Things that feel unmanageable when faced alone can be witnessed, explored and worked through. Self reflection, psychological inquiry, and mindful attention to one's personal experience are skills one develops during a depth oriented therapy. Many things can bring a person into therapy. Short term counseling is helpful when people need a bit of extra support during a particular life event or transition. Perhaps you need support making a decision, getting clear on a particular issue, taking that next step, or navigating a painful event. My role in such times is to help you listen to the knowledge you already have inside of you, but that may be hard to focus on because of the increased sense of pressure, anxiety, or grief brought on by current life events. Longer term psychotherapy uses long standing symptoms to help one enter into a rich and meaningful relationship to oneself. Not only are the outward effects of symptoms addressed, but the deeper roots of one's personal suffering can be worked through. This type of work can be highly transformative, leading to greater life satisfaction.
