My Approach to Helping

Therapy is a journey that gives us the opportunity to find our genuine selves and ultimately become the best person we can be. Through therapy, profound and lasting change and growth can occur. I am a doctor of psychology as well as a licensed independent clinical social worker. I have deep expertise in working with addiction and recovery issues, alcoholism, as well as family, relationship, and couples issues. I have spent more than 20 years in the psychotherapy field. I work with adolescents and adults, in individual, family, and couple modalities. As a therapist, my approach to therapy is to meet you at your current place in life, and to support you to advance toward your objectives, work past obstacles, and attain supreme growth. I utilize various therapeutic approaches, comprising psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and strength-based techniques.

More Info About My Practice

I have previously spoken at both national and international conferences, and on radio, television, and film about mental health addiction, relationship, and treatment issues. I have additionally worked as a consultant for the United States Congress in the area of substance abuse parity legislation. My 7 bestselling books, "LIVE AND LOVE EACH DAY," "FROM ADDICTION TO RECOVERY," "PRACTICAL THERAPY," "HOW TO STAY TOGETHER," "HOW TO HEAL EMOTIONAL TRAUMA,”’ “7 KEYS TO PERSONAL IDENTITY,” and “THE GOLDEN MEAN“ are available through most online booksellers and on my website. Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I am particularly adept at helping people with alcoholism and addictions because of my own personal background. In addition to working in the treatment field for over twenty years, I have also personally been in recovery for three decades. I have done a great deal of personal work, and have been committed to my own growth and change since entering into my own continuous recovery. After getting into recovery, I became a psychotherapist and have had the honor of working in a profession where I can help people through both my professional and personal knowledge and experience. I understand the complexities of dealing with addictions and relationship issues, as well as uncovering and addressing the underlying issues that gradually rise to the surface after seeking help.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy helps people to address issues under the surface of their lives. While many of us would prefer a quick fix or band-aid approach to the issues that cause us distress, it is the deeper work that results in lasting and profound change. Psychotherapy helps us to identify causes and conditions beneath the surface of what we see, and to address them in a meaningful way.
