My Approach to Helping
As a psychotherapist, my philosophical belief is that therapy is not about cure, rather about individuation which usually involves transformation. Most often, people initiate therapy because they are suffering from feelings often hidden in symptoms of physical pain, depression or anxiety. I believe that physical pain, anxiety and depression tell us that something is not working in our lives and needs to change. Usually these symptoms protect us from deeper feelings or thoughts. However, feelings do not physically hurt us, while the things that we do in order to not feel does hurt us, and can even kill us. To find a way to sit with our feelings allows us to have a clearer understanding of what we are trying to become. When we are living authentically symptoms tend to dissipate.
I work with trauma/abuse, depression, anxiety, cultural diversity issues, problems with work and relationship problems. I see adults, in individual or couples, women and men. My work is supportive, indepth and is Jungian oriented.
I am a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. My most recent research focused on female developmental and trauma in early adulthood. I am also a professor and a writer.
