My Approach to Helping
As a Somatic Counselor, I draw on an understanding of how our thoughts and emotions are profoundly intertwined with our physiology. Using a family systems and communications lens from 10+ years as a counselor and language educator(3yrs to 70 yrs), I provide counseling for individuals, partners, and children that integrates the whole brain. With both verbal and nonverbal experiential methods, we may first - verbally map experience, compassionately developing awareness of behavior patterns, and then - nonverbally explore what is "known" just beneath the surface through structured experiential activities. Clients are always free to choose, and the range of experiential methods includes: Expressive Therapies (SandPlay, Play Therapy for children, Hakomi Experiential Therapy, & Family Constellation work), PSYCH-K core belief work, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) for life event recovery. As painful personal events or physical healing challenges can cause us to contract or react, discovering underlying patterns and developing alternatives can create an opening - which is especially valuable when available responses have become limited.
