My Approach to Helping

My philosophy of personal growth counseling is designed to help you develop a long term strategy for wellness, not just a short term "quick fix." I work from a solution-focused perspective which means that I help you to focus on your strengths to help you achieve your goals. I provide a safe, nurturing and sometimes challenging environment so that you can do the work that you need to do in our sessions. What I have found in my work is that no matter what fancy shmancy "technique" I use, my clients benefit the most by the safety and trust that they experience in their working relationship with me. I see myself more as a guide or a coach to help you along your path to reach your life goals. My job is to help you improve, transform or enrich your quality of life. We learn the most about ourselves through our relationships. In counseling I can help you explore a deeper connection with yourself and others by helping you strengthen or soften your boundaries and identifying and meeting your relationship needs in your own life. I hope to help clients in making the shift from just "functioning" to experiencing satisfaction. Our lives are so busy and full, yet we dont feel "full-filled." I believe that we need to take the time to feel the give-and-take in our relationships and use that as fuel for ourselves so that we can be our best when giving to others and not feel drained or deprived. I believe that people typically have their own answers, but may need guidance in clarifying and articulating them in order to bring their life vision to fruition. The real question becomes "Do you have the courage and strength to do what is right for you?"
