My Approach to Helping

My practical approach with clients is focused on increasing goal-oriented thinking and behaviors while improving interpersonal and coping skills. I strive to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship based on self-determination, acceptance, respect, trust, and encouragement. I use an eclectic approach to therapy that incorporates family of origin, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral aspects of counseling. There is much to be learned from how we experienced our world as a child not to blame our parents, but to learn how these patterns continue to play out in our adult relationships at work and at home. Through our awareness of our personal interactions styles, we can look toward more successful choices in personal interchanges. The therapeutic environment is intended to be a safe and honest one; therefore, I encourage my clients to speak freely about any concerns they may have, particularly regarding our progress or the sessions themselves.
