My Approach to Helping
People come to me with a wide range of problems but most of the time, the problems come down to the many traumas of simply living life! Whether it be childhood issues or a present crisis, I help people come to terms with what they find most painful or terrifying, to make meaning out of suffering, and to turn their difficulties into something useful. An important goal of treatment is to become an authentic person who can cope with the full range of human emotions and experience. Working together, self-created obstacles to a more fulfilling life can be overcome.

More Info About My Practice
I am not presently accepting patients on insurance company panels however I will assist with out of network billing (I will basically do it for you). I have successfully billed many insurance companies including Cigna, Aetna, Oxford/United Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you have insurance, always find out if you have out-of-network benefits. For those of you who don't speak "insurance", if you have out-of-network benefits, you can see any therapist you want but you often have to pay a deductible and a percentage of the fee. Many therapists will work with you to make this affordable so don't pass up the option of being able to work with whomever you prefer. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me. I will talk to your insurance company and find out what your benefits are. I do my best to help my patients with this difficult and confusing process.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have suffered from chronic pain for almost 20 years and have learned how to cope with it. Many of my patients come to me having been pathologized (meaning they've been told their pain is "all in their head") by their doctors. Through the professional connections I have, my patients obtain proper diagnosis and treatment, and learn how to cope with the myriad difficulties of living with the disease that is chronic pain. Anxiety and depression are common mental health conditions that are caused by chronic pain; I teach patients how to cope when their chronic pain starts to rule their lives.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Most definitely! I suffered from major depression and generalized anxiety many years ago. Overcoming these conditions was very difficult but made possible by a skilled and deeply committed therapist. I can say to patients, "It will get better," with confidence. It is imperative that mental health professionals set an example and contribute to removing the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
