My Approach to Helping
Dr. Marcus takes an active approach in his work with clients. He prides himself in being the kind of therapist that creates a safe and accepting environment. His approach is one of curiosity as he encourages his clients to wonder about themselves, how their life has unfolded and what led them to make the choices that they made. As insight is gained, so is the ability to make new choices that lead the client to living a more satisfying life.

When working with couples, Dr. Marcus incorporates IMAGO therapy along with the work of Dr. Gottman. His approach is one of ensuring that the couple learns to interact with each other in a way that is open and curious. During the first session, Dr. Marcus teaches couples how to communicate in a structured-safe way. In addition, he helps couples identify ways that their interactions are ineffective, especially when criticism, shaming and blaming are used.

Lastly, Dr. Marcus also works with clients who are struggling with sexual issues. As a Diplomate in Sex Therapy through the American Association of Sex Educators, counselors and Therapists, he is well trained in helping men and women become more comfortable with their sexuality and ability to be intimate. He also has experience working with men and women struggling with sexual dysfunction including ED, PE and vaginismus.
