First, we ask "why are you here?" Your statements and description of the problem lead to the recommendation for a full or limited evaluation to validate that the problem does exist, describe it, and measure the severity of the problem. We also try to figure out how best to help you.
Evaluation can include observations in different places (such as home, school, or work), tests, criterion-based tools, questionnaires, development scales, or informal measures.
The evaluation process is important because the information gathered is used to formulate the treatment plan. If we only obtain an imperfect picture of the problem, the treatment plan might not capture everything that needs to be addressed. If a complete evaluation is not possible, a limited evaluation with diagnostic therapy might be recommended.
The therapeutic process is not one-sided; the client is a partner in the treatment plan design and implementation. We strongly believe in using evidence-based techniques whenever possible, educating the client and the parent about challenges.
If therapy is not what you need at this time, we offer consultation services so that you can learn more about treatment options and supportive acitivites to encourage speech, language, and social development.
