My Approach to Helping
My counseling style is one of collaboration, warmth, mutual respect and creative usage of techniques to foster long term change and personal growth.
My integrative counseling perspective is built on a cognitive-behavioral foundation and supplemented with brief solutions-focused, psychodynamic and Gestalt theories to assist you (1) in identifying your problems, (2) developing an understanding of the thought patterns and emotions that contribute to maintaining your problems and (3) implementing appropriate solutions to work towards alleviating your problems and living a happier life. I am experienced in treating a wide variety of issues, including: Stress; Depression; Anxiety; Addiction; Sexuality; Trauma; Domestic Violence; Interpersonal, Marital and Family Relationships; Grief; Physical Health Issues, Illness and Chronic Pain; and Life Coaching/Career Development.
Treatment services are determined collaboratively based on your individualized needs and may include: Individual Psychotherapy; Couples/Marriage Counseling; Family Therapy; Group Therapy; and Psychological Appraisals. Therapy group topics include physical health issues such as addiction, chronic pain, oncology, HIV/AIDS and bereavement/grief.
I am licensed in providing mental health counseling and addiction treatment in the states of Louisiana and New York as well as nationally and I am a provider of Department of Transportation (DOT) Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) Evaluations.
Attention to intersections of mental and physical health and the importance of multicultural counseling are key facets of the counseling experience at my practice.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Regardless of how you locate a therapist, be prepared to ask questions that will help you decide if that therapist is a good match for you. Remember, YOU are interviewing the therapist and even a good therapist may not be the appropriate match for every person.
Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work
My integrative counseling perspective is built on a cognitive-behavioral foundation and supplemented with brief solutions-focused, psychodynamic and Gestalt theories to assist you (1) in identifying your problems, (2) developing an understanding of the thought patterns and emotions that contribute to maintaining your problems and (3) implementing appropriate solutions to work towards alleviating your problems and living a happier life.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
The decision to participate in therapy involves recognizing the importance of monitoring one's progress towards one's life goals and being willing to admit when you may benefit from making adjustments to your normal ways of relating to yourself and the world around you. This is absolutely a sign of strength and I fully believe that self-care is something to be proud of rather than embarrassed by. As your therapist, I will strive to help you understand this and to take pride in your decision to actively pursue your own happiness.
