My Approach to Helping
I have a deep inherent sense of how best to support people in learning how to gain/regain their own strength and establish confidence and resources in order to help themselves. I believe in intervening on behalf of couples, individuals, and families to discover positive concrete gradual problem solving behaviors, habits, and values to achieve goals the client themselves create and desire.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have tremendous experience with adhd, learning disorders, depression, anxiety, and addictions as that has been the path of most of my personal and professional learning

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

To gently and gradually work oneself out of a job by helping a client generate their own energies to feel entirely self-sufficient.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Watching individuals and families (re)discover their strengths and aptitudes, skills and blessings.

My Role as a Therapist

Listener, counselor

My Therapy Focus

I allow the client to guide how I can be most helpful.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Only what they want me to know is fine. My sense of human nature is very good, and being \"nosey\" about a client is not useful or necessary.

My Guiding Ethical Principles

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

You are worth trying this, and have absolutely nothing to loose!

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

It may be true you had a negative experience, and only you can decide when/if to try again. These things tend to come back around after a while and hopefully work better at a later time.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Just like life, you have to live it to know it.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

These things can be compartmentalized with a good therapist and dealt with very manageably and gradually.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Every car needs a tune up now and then. It is really that simple. Everyone should avail themselves periodically of good life experiences. Life is short and we all need support in maximizing our full potential.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

The DSM and the entire idea of \"disorders\" is both very useful and very outdated. It is a gradual collective mental health challenge to gradually bring mental healthcare into a gentle, normal focus in our culture. It really is much better than it used to be and the field is absolutely full of thoughtful, intelligent, extremely conscientious clinicians.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

I prefer shorter than longer, setting folks out with a handful of skills to try out and then come back whenever necessary. Some things logically take longer than others.
